    • A celebration of street culture in contemporary art

      Performance

Skateboarding, BMX biking, graffiti and break dancing – often referred to as ‘street culture’ – are popular topics within contemporary art. The painter and graffiti artist Barry McGee, whose work can be found in the John Kaldor Family Gallery, fuses together found and invented imagery, tags and everyday objects. The work of Shaun Gladwell, also in the collection, critically engages personal history, memory and contemporary cultural phenomena through performance, video, painting and sculpture. Gladwell is himself a skateboarder and he creates a mesmerising dialogue between performance and street culture.

This BMX biking performance celebrates street culture in contemporary art and the work of Gladwell and McGee.
