Chewie Chan is a storyboard and comic book artist. He has storyboarded music videos and blockbuster movies including Happy feet and Superman returns, drawn comic books and characters including Iron Man and The Phantom, and created conceptual designs for television shows. Chewie was the graphic novels supervisor at Kennedy Miller Mitchell/Dr D Studios and is currently a lecturer for the Master of Animation course at the University of Technology, Sydney. Just like Chewie’s storyboards, the panels of Yu Hong’s sarcophagus tell a story. Chewie joins us to consider the importance of visual language, both past and present.

Former director of the Art Galley of NSW Edmund Capon was instrumental in negotiating and securing this rare viewing opportunity. A Silk Road saga provides only the third international showing of the Yu Hong sarcophagus. Edmund returns to the Gallery to share his vast knowledge of Asian art and archaeology with arts journalist and author Joyce Morgan. Joyce is co-author of Journeys on the Silk Road, which tells the story behind the discovery of the world’s oldest printed book. She has been a journalist for more than 30 years in London, Sydney and Hong Kong and was arts editor at The Sydney Morning Herald. Join Joyce and Edmund for a fascinating discussion about the historic importance of the Silk Road.
