The President, Mr John Masters, and the Council of the Art Gallery Society of NSW, present the Society’s new acquisition for the Gallery.

Portrait of a young man 1565/70 by Giovanni Battista Moroni has been acquired for the European collection with the generous assistance of the Gallery’s members.

Senior curator of European art pre-1900, Richard Beresford, has said: ‘this picture will become the greatest Renaissance portrait in the Gallery’s Old Master collection, and probably the greatest in Australia.’

Contributors to the Collection Circle Acquisition Program are offered this exclusive opportunity to attend the official presentation of the work to the Gallery.
