      Historian Judith Keene discusses Picasso’s politics through his paintings, addressing his famous response to the Spanish Civil War, the monumental mural Guernica (1937), as well as the less well-known The massacre in Korea (1951), an intriguing work in the current exhibition.

    • Picasso’s Blue and Rose periods reconsidered

      Frank Heckes, honorary research associate, School of Historical and European Studies, LaTrobe University
      A specialist in Spanish art history, Dr Heckes considers Picasso’s life and artistic development from 1900 to 1905, the so-called Blue and Rose periods, including such Blue period works as Evocation (The burial of Casagemas) (1901), La Vie (1903) and the haunting La Celestina (1904), which appears in the exhibition, and such Rose period works as The family of saltimbanques (1905).
