From the remote community of Warmun (Turkey Creek) in the East Kimberley, the Gurrir Gurrir is a renowned Joonba (public ceremonial performance), which sparked a cultural renaissance recognised today as the Warmun art movement. It was performed on the east coast for the first time at the Art Gallery of NSW's ‘open weekend’ in 2010. The boards used by the performers were made specially for this performance and are now in the Gallery’s collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art.
