About
MATSUMURA Keibun was a younger brother of MATSUMURA Gekkei (Go Shun), whose early painting from his 'nanga' period is in the Gallery collection. Go Shun changed his style after meeting Maruyama Ôkyo and incorporated naturalism to establish the influential Shijô school. Keibun studied painting under Go Shun to become his most important student. He was adept at bird-and-flower paintings with mastery of techniques.
Asian Art Department, 17 June 2003.
