entering Eden
entering Paradiseon a sunny day in Santa Monica
Sunday the 6th of April 2003on the corner of Bay and Main
on the sidewalk in front of Pandemic
on the beaches facing the Pacific Ocean
on the parking lot below palm trees
on the stairs near the chess playerswe asked 12 (twelve) homeless men
for their footprints. We offered to pay them.
They accepted. They took off their shoes
tired, dirty, stinking, full of pain
their feet
touched the shining copper plates
their feet
rocked back and forth
leaving an impression. For one afternoon they entered Paradise
(booze, grub, booze).A refreshing breeze came from the ocean.
