  • About

Peter Vernon Hickey was born in Sydney on 29 July 1943 and is a painter, printmaker, teacher and master printer. He studied at the National School of Art, Royal Art Society of NSW, Heatherly School of Fine Art London, Morley College London, and at Atelier Gaston Petit, Tokyo. In 1974 he was elected to the British Printmakers Council. In 1992-3 he was Artist in Residence at the Kala Institute, San Francisco. He is best known for etchings and monotypes and has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions since 1974.

These aquatints recall the atmospheric prints of Syd Long, in both subject and technique. Using landscape as an anchor for his images, Hickey has written of his etchings as, "...a portrayal of an emotion experienced while viewing the landscape rather than a figurative representation."
