  • About

plate 4 'Military memories of the Republic, the Consulate and the Empire' 1833

Bellangé trained as a painter in the studio of Antoine-Jean Gros but he worked mainly as a printmaker in the newly fashionable medium of lithography. His prints enjoyed immense popular appeal and usually illustrate patriotic subjects celebrating the military triumphs of the recent Napoleonic past.
