- Further information
One of Salvatore Zofrea's earliest self portraits, this drawing is a sensitive rendering of himself as a young man, testing his own abilities and eager to find his feet as an artist. It also reveals his early love of the Italian Old Masters - especially Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci; it has remained in his possession together with similarly precocious drawings of his mother and her hands. Zofrea has often referred to this drawing when making portraits of himself when young for his paintings and woodcuts, including Appassionata.
