About
Plate 488 published in 'La Caricature', no 235, 7 May 1835, the in 'Le Charivari', 14 May 1835.
The political trial of the leaders of the Republican uprising in Lyon (April 1834) opened in Paris on 5 May 1835. Daumier conjures up the spectre of Napoleonic hero, Marshal Ney, condemned to death by the Bourbon royalists in 1815 as a symbol of the current government’s abuse of the law.
