About
Exhibited at the spring exhibition of the Society of Women Painters, held at the society's rooms in the Queen Victoria Building, Sydney, in November 1919, the 'Daily telegraph' newspaper critic singled out this work - one of two watercolours by the artist acquired by the Art Gallery of New South Wales from the display - writing:
"'The banjo girl' is a boldly-handled study of a girl in blue, seated, playing, on a white stool. It is a picture which stands out, and whose qualities, in the way of strong handling and effective composition and coloring, cannot be missed".
