  • About

    Born in Hyogo Prefecture and educated at the Sokei Academy of Fine Arts, Tamekane now resides in Tokyo. He wants to express this contemporary age through the inner wanderings of his own soul. To create the distinctive surface of his prints, he combines woodblock printing and metal flecks, both of which are traditional in Japan, with the newer technique of collagraph. The ambiguous forms in his prints nudge our memories and subconscious. In this particular print the central totemic shape, undefined in scale and texture, resonates as an ancient Chinese jade ceremonial blade or sceptre, imbued with the dignity of the unknown authority it represents.
