According to Geoffrey Fullwood, the artist's son, the young woman in the foreground of this pastel is his mother, Clyda Blanche Fullwood. Henry Fullwood married Clyda in 1896. She was a pianist and the daughter of the Sydney photographer John Herbert Newman. In this pastel she is about 20 to 22 years of age.
