  • About

Constance Robinja is one of the most respected artists working with Yarrenyty Arltere Artists. This art centre is based in the Larrapinta Valley town camp on the outskirts of Mparntwe. Most of the artists have strong Western Arrernte connections and this heritage in addition to contemporary experiences informs their work. The art centre has a transformative effect on the lives of the artists and their community and it plays a major role in the cultural heritage of this country.

Robinja works with both soft sculptural forms and printmaking. In 'Big and Strong' 2012 Robinja offers an awkward representation of the human form, heavily rendered, with elongated arms that appear anything but agile. Dominating the frame the figure is reminiscent of a monolith dominating the landscape, creating an interesting association with figures of the Altyerr who created and shaped country and remain immersed in the landscape as a constant presence to remind people of their actions.
