The painting 'The golden age' 1893, for which Altson was awarded the Travelling Scholarship in his final year at the National Gallery School, Melbourne, was acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria under the conditions of the scholarship. This drawing is a later copy of the painting by the artist, for publication in London's 'The Magazine of Art' in 1895.
