About
Inside the cover is a view of the Albrechtsburg, the gothic castle in Meissen in which Augustus the Strong established the Meissen factory in 1710. The same scene appears in a print dated 1726 made by Johann Alexander Thiele after a painting of his own. Since the Meissen version is in reverse with respect to the print, it probably derives from Thiele’s original painting or drawing. The outside of the cover and the base of the box are painted with spiralling floral garlands.
