The pattern of chrysanthemum and prunus branches issuing from ‘banded hedges’ derives from Japanese Kakiemon porcelain. Similar patterns were used at the Meissen and Chantilly factories. As in all polychrome decoration at Saint-Cloud, the palette is limited to five colours (red, blue, green, yellow and black). The knop is in the form of a white tulip with red flames.
