"The painting 'Turn' was made in late '65. It was an attempt to have my cake (simplicity) and eat it too (complexity, content) or something. It has a connection obviously with the best American painting (P.P.A. [Post-painterly abstraction]) but not with the critical dogmas that surround that 'school'".
