The following programs for secondary school students can be organised for a date you nominate. Bookings are essential, at least two weeks in advance or four weeks in advance for mega excursions and made-to-measure excursions.

Artist experience

Step into the creative hands of a practising artist and be inspired to look at and think about art through the eyes of an artist. Our engaging and skillful artist educators are professional artists working across a range of artistic disciplines. Let them take you on an art journey using artist-devised experiences to stimulate critical and creative thinking and imaginative response. Choose a 60-minute discussion session or longer sessions with an artmaking focus.

Artist practice

See the world through the eyes of an artist. What material and conceptual choices do artists make? Find new ways of seeing and build confidence with contemporary art practices.

Shock of the old

An art journey through time to unpack how artists have interpreted their world. Discover the wonders of our collection and how the meaning of art changes and evolves throughout history.

Identity plus

Explore the art world through the complexities of cultures and heritage. How do artists respond to place and cultural identity?


Taking inspiration from the photography gallery exhibitions, explore contemporary and traditional approaches to photography to discover how artists interpret the world around them.

Naala ngara: look, listen, think

Connect with the diversity and strength of Indigenous art practice across the country. Consider and respond to historical and contemporary issues and ideas which inform artists and their work.

Study tour: Get your art together

Explore the Gallery’s collection with a Gallery teacher specialist. Prepare your year 12 students for the demands of HSC – in art practice and with the art history, theory and critical components including skills to tackle unseen images. Choose a 60-minute discussion session or longer sessions to include ways of approaching a body of work.

Mega excursion

Designed for large groups visiting the Gallery, this art experience package includes an introduction to the Gallery, an artist practice session and interactive performance to ignite imagination and curiosity in your students.

Made-to-measure excursion

If you can’t find what you’re looking for and have a theme, topic or experience in mind, let us create a custom-made session program for you. We are happy to accommodate your needs and create a dynamic excursion that will get your students excited about art.
