Biennale of Sydney 2006
Zones of contact

The conceptual framework of 15th Biennale of Sydney is 'zones of contact’ and the exhibition includes a range of some 80 artists from 40 countries around the world practising in all forms of the visual arts.

At 'zones of contact’ there are bridges and there are walls. These are places where lives interact and differences bloom. In overlapping cultures, customs and territories, there are pleasures as well as problems, especially against the battered silhouette of colonial history.

The Art Gallery of NSW joins the Museum of Contemporary Art as a principal venue. In 2006, these are joined by the historic Pier 2/3, as well as multiple city-wide venues, including: Sydney Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens, Artspace, Ivan Dougherty Gallery, Performance Space, National Art School and Campbelltown Arts Centre.

The artistic director and curator for this year’s biennale is Dr Charles Merewether.
