Sydney International Art Series

Bringing the world’s most outstanding exhibitions to Australia, exclusively to Sydney, every summer

The 2014-15 Sydney International Art Series will showcase two inspired exhibitions – Pop to popism (1 November 2014 – 1 March 2015) at the Art Gallery of NSW and Chuck Close: prints, process and collaboration (20 November 2014 – 15 March 2015) at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA).

Popular, witty, sexy and glamorous, Pop to popism will fill an entire floor of the Art Gallery of NSW this summer with works from the giants of the pop art era. Iconic works from Warhol, Lichtenstein, Koons, Haring, and Hockney will feature alongside Australian artists in this monumental exhibition, showcasing the movement that changed the face of art forever.

The MCA exhibition Chuck Close: prints, process and collaboration is the largest collection of Close’s work ever presented in the southern hemisphere. One of America’s best-loved visual artists, Close is famed for his large-scale, photo-based portrait paintings. His highly inventive techniques have featured in more than 200 solo exhibitions in more than 20 countries. Close has produced many iconic portraits of well-known public figures, including Brad Pitt, Cindy Sherman, Roy Lichtenstein and President Obama.

The Sydney International Art Series sees the city’s two pre-eminent art museums – the Art Gallery of NSW and the MCA – join forces to present this exciting annual art series in partnership with Destination NSW.
