Archibald Prize 2012 tour
Tim Storrier The histrionic wayfarer (after Bosch) (detail)
One of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious art prizes, the annual Archibald Prize never ceases to create lively debate among the arts community and wider public. Each year, the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW judge this prize, which is awarded to the best portrait painting, preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in art, letters, science or politics, from the many entrants to the competition.
This touring exhibition is an opportunity to see all 41 finalists, including this year’s winner Tim Storrier’s The histrionic wayfarer (after Bosch) and works by Adam Cullen, Ben Quilty, Jenny Sages and Wendy Sharpe, among many others.
