Confessions of the 25 anonymous
HSC year: 2006, ARTEXPRESS year: 2007
Expressive form: Digital media
Have you ever kept something hidden from others or known only to oneself or to a few? Have you ever felt concealed and trapped by your deepest darkest secret? Have you ever considered the fact that the truth will set you free? Have you ever considered that those around you may have a similar experience or perhaps the same secret as you? This artwork explores secrets from 25 different individuals. Selected individuals were asked to write a secret on paper, of which 25 were chosen to be further explored. These secrets involve different aspects of life: friends, family, personal conflict and love. Each work is individually different from the others, and rich in layered meaning. The idea of displaying secrets is to send the message across that people shouldn’t be ashamed of their wonderful, weird, strange inner selves, their bizarre and somewhat beautiful secrets. Reading each secret may inspire or spark a few to appreciate their individuality, and to express themselves truthfully. We are all different in our own special way. Someone out there is bound to have a similar secret and experience. The weird bizarre arrangement of the visual images, unusual scanned textures, hand-written text and my own photography suited the concept and approach. The digital medium has unlimited boundaries when it comes to creating visual images combining images, words and ideas to convey to the audience. It has led me to investigate further and to express my ideas, to engage the audience.
