My textiles reflect a woman’s perspective of living in an isolated rural town, where some women are expected to take on traditional roles and resolve conflict. Many women dream of escaping. My body of work deals with issues pertinent to these small communities such as racism, religion, gender inequalities, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives. The cut-up signs are a reference to traffic signals and symbolise the dilemma in deciding which direction to take. Circles represent Indigenous culture, life forces, direction and the desire to escape, while not knowing which path to take to explore the future.
