Are we sitting too comfortably?
HSC year: 2011, ARTEXPRESS year: 2012
Expressive form: Painting
The traditional dining table setting is all too familiar. Its importance as an everyday ritual where the bonds of culture and human relationships are formed is something unique to our species. But with the rapid growth of consumerism and the number of mouths to feed in the 21st century, what is the cost of this uniquely human taste for comfort and tradition? By using confronting but truthful images of modern-day factory farming, my artwork is intended to subvert today’s desensitised attitude towards eating animals and be a reminder of what we all choose to forget at the dinner table.
