George is inspired by my eccentric neighbour, who passed away in June 2011 at 97 years of age. The simple and honest values in life, seen in George’s humble lifestyle, have been swallowed by the consumerist attitudes of contemporary society. The items that remain after an individual dies are juxtaposed against the materialism of modern life to challenge what worth they possess. Objects that once held memories and experiences no longer contain these meanings and lose their value. By honouring George, I challenge the motives of society and remind you that the simple sentiments of life often hold the most significance.
