Artist's statement

Wx12415, 5/400049: the identification numbers assigned to my grandfather throughout his service in both World War 2 and the Korean War. This work stands as a tribute to my grandfather’s inspiring efforts to overcome the traumatic memories, which so vividly intruded upon his everyday. My work attests to the human ability to cope through identification with a referential image of beauty, such as that of the orchid.
