Puer Aeternus: eternal child
HSC year: 2012, ARTEXPRESS year: 2013
Expressive form: Painting
My artworks explore the way in which we are shaped as individuals by our childhood. I have used mixed media to represent the various layers added to my personality over time. The recurring symbols of youth draw the focus towards the underlying question: as we grow do we ever really let go, or is the child within constantly present? My work questions whether, as I transition to the next stage of my journey, my fondest recollections of youth will be strong enough to shape my destiny or whether they will be discarded like some forgotten toy.
