Due to building works at the Gallery, the Archibald Prize exhibition, along with the Wynne and Sulman Prizes, was shown in Sydney’s Lower Town Hall.
Ray Crooke’s win for his portrait of writer George Johnston was something of a surprise as Crooke was known primarily as a landscape painter.
