Dane Lovett The Island

The island VHS tape was salvaged from Trash Video, a cult video store in West End, Brisbane that closed its doors a few years back. My brother took over the tenancy and I was helping to clean up the basement filled with thousands of tapes when I came across the The island. I wanted the final arrangement of objects in the painting to loosely resemble the familiar image of a sea-locked, desert island with a lone palm. The replacement of outdated technology and a search for utopia are key features of the film that are also significant themes in my work.
