Biron Valier Vanishing

acrylic on canvas

As we travel through life we are bombarded by a plethora of images. A few of these connect with us in a concrete way and others, more rarely, become ephemeral, mysterious, and hauntingly return to us.

At times we cannot find those images that reflect our inner feelings. So we have to create, re-invent using what we have found and then reaching out into the unknown. This process of searching can be found in the writings of Wolfgang Paalen, Edward Hopper and Albert Pinkham Ryder, and in the film 2001: a space odyssey.

In Vanishing a symbolic narrative is made by using the marquee from a 1975 drawing and adding the Katoomba facade.
