Xiuying Chen Central Railway Station, Sydney

watercolour

200 x 400 cm

Central Railway Station, Sydney expresses my deeply felt encounter with Sydney’s sights and sounds, and its wonderfully diverse, harmonious melting pot of humanity, since arriving in Australia as a migrant artist from Hubei Province, China.

The work, which merges traditional and contemporary perspectives and practices, displays the versatility of the art of Chinese brush painting. As one of the oldest art forms in the world, Chinese brush painting is practised globally and is alive and well in Australia, evolving as an integral part of Australia’s multicultural art milieu.

This artwork is a cross-cultural creation, drawing on my Chinese cultural roots to interpret and share the discoveries I have made in the country I now call home.
