Fire is an integral and essential aspect of the Australian environment. Over millions of years our dry eucalyptus forests have been forged in fire. They are quite literally ‘designed’ to burn. With bushfire comes regeneration. Many native species have evolved specifically to exploit the opportunities fire creates to renew forest and open woodlands.

In isolating the landmass, putting the viewer at a distinct vantage, I accentuate both the land’s monumental and immoveable aspects as well as its vulnerability. The layers of geological strata suggest the here-and-now to be little more than skin deep, the fleeting, frailness of ‘now’ upon a shifting geology of restless change.
