Become a volunteer

Volunteer your services and become part of the public face of the Gallery.

Volunteers are an essential part of the life of the Gallery, providing various types of support. There are several groups of volunteers:

Volunteer guides

Our guides provide wide-ranging expert tours of the permanent collection and major temporary exhibitions to visitors of all kinds – both adults and children – including school groups, Gallery members, corporate clients and VIPs. Specially trained guides also assist with our access programs for people with disabilities.

We recruit for volunteer guides every five years. The next intake will be in 2015.

Community ambassadors

Community Ambassador volunteers support the Gallery through offering guided tours in community languages and promoting the Gallery through community organisations and publications. They offer tours once a week in Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese and Korean languages, as well as planning and hosting special events.

We are not currently recruiting new community ambassadors. Future calls for recruitment will be announced on this website, in various community newspapers and in the Art Gallery Society magazine, Look.

Task Force

Task Force volunteers provide invaluable service to the Gallery by staffing the exhibition ticketing desk, informing visitors of the benefits of becoming a member and serving food and beverages in the Members’ Lounge cafe and at Society events. They also occasionally assist with mail-outs and other administrative duties. They interact well with the public, have good communication skills and are always willing to help.

To apply to become a Task Force volunteer, please complete and submit the application form.
