Gabriel Martins (Identity death) وية الموت
Society uses clothing and make-up to determine who you are, yet masculinity or femininity are fluid, formed by your personal sense of self. My body of work explores my true identity. I often experience resistance when experimenting with my identity through feminine clothing and make-up. The conservative nature of my Lebanese heritage often pressures me to uphold traditional masculine values, compromising my self worth in order to conform. My intent is to challenge the audience's assumptions about my identity. Formal black clothing resembling funeral attire represents the extinction of my true self. In the final photograph I'm unrecognisable, beyond definition.
