Presenting a new Collection Circle acquisition
Giovanni Battista Moroni's Portrait of a Young Man
The President, Mr John Masters, and the Council of the Art Gallery Society of NSW, present the Society’s new acquisition for the Gallery.
Portrait of a young man 1565/70 by Giovanni Battista Moroni has been acquired for the European collection with the generous assistance of the Gallery’s members.
Senior curator of European art pre-1900, Richard Beresford, has said: ‘this picture will become the greatest Renaissance portrait in the Gallery’s Old Master collection, and probably the greatest in Australia.’
