Sydney collectors John Kaldor, Naomi Milgrom, Andrew Cameron and Daniel Droga discuss collecting contemporary art

In the early 1960s collecting contemporary art was only beginning to become popular. It was possible to enter one of the few commercial galleries, enjoy the works, revisit the gallery and take one’s time in purchasing a work of art for what we would now consider a very nominal fee. Today, with the rise in art auctions, international art fairs, biennales and art values, the process of collecting contemporary art has dramatically shifted. This panel, chaired by Wayne Tunnicliffe, the Gallery’s senior curator of contemporary art, explores the changes, challenges and opportunities in collecting contemporary art over the past few decades.
