Elena Taylor will examine the history of John Russell in the context of well-known Australian expatriates such as Tom Roberts, E. Phillips Fox, John Longstaff and Iso Rae in London and Paris during the 1880’s and how these relationships played a part in the globalisation of Impressionism during this period.
Elena Taylor is the Senior Curator of the University of New South Wales Art Collection and was the former Curator of Australian Painting, Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, where she curated numerous exhibitions including Australian Impressionists in France: 1885–1915 (2013) and Brave New World: Australia 1930s.
