Art After Hours Online: Marlene Rubuntja in conversation with Coby Edgar

How often do you think about joy? Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art can very easily slip into seriousness. Although it is important to tell the stories of history and people that are uncomfortable or in need of critical dialogue it is also important to celebrate the sheer joy of art and culture. Our new exhibition at the Gallery – appropriately titled ‘Joy’ – does just that! In this Art After Hours Online talk, curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art Coby Edgar chats with ‘Joy’ artist Marlene Rubuntja about her stunning soft sculptures , their friendship and the joyfulness of community, culture and creativity.
