The Archibald Prize, first awarded in 1921, is Australia’s favourite art award, and one of its most prestigious. Awarded to the best portrait painting, it’s a who’s who of Australian culture – from politicians to celebrities, sporting heroes to artists. Curator Anne Ryan gives us a unique insight into her process of curating and hanging this exhibition.

Sydney artist Tony Costa is the winner of the 2019 Archibald Prize for his portrait of artist Lindy Lee, a leading contemporary Australian artist herself. Her art practice explores her Chinese ancestry through the philosophies of Taoism and Zen Buddhism.
