Kathy Ramsey is a Gija artist based in Warmun in the East Kimberley region. She began painting in 2013 with the encouragement of her mother Mona Ramsey, herself a distinguished artist. Indeed, Ramsey comes from an esteemed artistic family, as her father, Rammey Ramsey and grandfather Timmy Timms, are also recognised artists. Ramsey works in the defined East Kimberly style of using natural pigments in bold areas of colour outlined in brilliant white dots to define particular segments of country. In 'Jack's yard' 2013 Ramsey offers multiple viewpoints of country near Bow River, showing both aerial and planar views of the landscape. Complete with subterranean detail the work is infused with elements of the Ngarrangkarni as Ramsey aims to capture her knowledge of country and the stories associated with it, for future generations.
