About
Kevin Lincoln began making still lifes in the mid-1970s, when he ‘...started to pay attention to the objects on the table before me – and in this way began making still-life paintings’ (Kevin Lincoln, 2015). Initially he pictured objects that had a personal meaning to him, although he grew increasingly drawn to exploring formal questions in subject, materials and composition.
This is a preparatory drawing for a lithograph by the artist in the Gallery’s collection Still life with vase and peaches 1989. The forms are compressed in the picture plane recalling the still life paintings of the cubists, while the fruit and vase are pared back to a simple geometric suggestion on the page
