About
Adelaide Perry had a remarkable facility for drawing. Her perceptive and angular rendering of form was acutely expressed in drawings from life, including portraiture, still life and the nude. As a teacher of art to aspiring professionals as well as children, she utilised life drawing and printmaking in instructing others, as well as in her own practice.
Study for 'The Bridge, October 1929' is a study for her most important linocut, (‘The Bridge, October 1929’ AGNSW, Gift of George Soutter and John Yu 2008), with compositional similarities such as the bridge in construction, watercraft in the mid-ground and the dynamically styled trees in the foreground.
