  • About

    Art centre documentation for this work states;
    Patju Presley has depicted the significant site of Ilpilyi situated to the east of traditional Spinifex Lands. This site holds the Kalaya Tjuta Tjukurpa or Many Emu Creation Line and forms part of a much larger epic that follows a large group of emu men as they traverse the country from west to east on their sacred journey to adulthood. At Ilpilyi they find shelter in a cave upon a rocky outcrop. These are creation beings who possessed metamorphic powers of transformation being both man and animal at will. They were able to shape the landscape as they moved through it and leave indelible monolithic physical reminders of their presence. The moral paths these beings took are still followed today in an oral creationist history of massive proportion involving song and dance, law and punishment.
