Further information

Born 1975 in Bern, Christine Streuli has exhibited widely in Europe since 2002. Her work first garnered international attention in 2007 when she represented Switzerland at the Venice Biennale.

Streuli is known for a boldly experimental approach to abstract painting, typically involving the dense layering of different painting techniques which often "spill" from the canvas into the exhibition space. In 2017 she was awarded the prestigous Fred-Thieler-Prize for Painting which was judged by artists Valerie Favre, Katharina Grosse and Gerwald Rockenshaub, and museum directors Udo Kittelman (Nationalgalerie, Berlin) and Thomas Kohler (Berlinische Galerie). The award paid tribute to Streuli's "calculated yet stridently overstated application of painterly techniques."
