The sisters Beryl Jimmy, Imitjala Pollard and Anne Dixon paint collaboratively as the Watarru Collective. Their work is inspired by a deep connection to country and is evidence of their immense knowledge of food and water sources that are vital for survival in the dynamic desert environment that is their home. In Kalkatja 2013 they provide a beautiful depiction of the vast landscape and natural resources surrounding the remote community of Watarru, in the Southern Desert region. A particular focus within the work is a serpent being that resides in a rockhole at Kalkatja. The work also shows the rocky country that surrounds this rockhole, as well as the large fig tree and wild tobacco plant that are found there.
