About
LALANNE was a prolific printmaker and a champion of the art of etching. He was an exhibiting member of the ‘Societe des aquafortistes’ from 1862 to 1865, as well as the author of an influential manual on etching, first published in 1866. He also regularly exhibited etchings and charcoal drawings at the Salon until 1880. His many landscape etchings were mainly drawn directly on the copper plate outdoors. He engraved the beauty spots of Paris, Bordeaux, Switzerland and areas throughout France, as well as a series on the Siege of Paris 1870-71
