About
Toyohara Kunichika was well known for his kabuki prints and his understanding of kabuki dramas that were popular during the time he was active. He was an artist that was able to make the transition from the Edo to the Meiji period during a period of great upheaval for the country both socially and politically. He started not only to depict more realistic faces of kabuki actors, but also experimented with western single point perspective.
