Further information

Guan Wei has often looked to the constellations in the sky, recalling their mystical interpretations, interstellar lines of connection and magical creatures. Here, he conjures them again when pointing to the chaotic and exhausting pace of modern life. He asks us to “free our hearts… and return to the origin”; to look to the stars and see in them the potential for “infinite freedom and happiness”.

The design of this work draws inspiration from the Chinese legend of Pangu, the first living creature. In ancient times, heaven and earth were said to be combined in a giant egg inside which Pangu grew. After 18,000 years, the division of heaven and earth occurred and Pangu sprang forth. This powerful being created the sun, moon, stars and everything else in the universe.
